The original painting is available. I’ve taken walks here many times, at the end of it there’s a small flower garden that includes a small tree. In the background you can see some of the surrounding homes. I couldn’t figure out why the painting didn’t look finished and then I added in some highlight details with gouache and that pulled the painting together.

The original painting is for sale. While reviewing my paintings I realized that I spend a lot of time walking through the woods. I was thinking about what made me take the reference photo for this painting, it was the way the light was illuminating the green foliage. The way the light passes through the leaves makes the green appear brighter than if it was just reflected off the tops of the leaves. It reminds me of how light passing through a transparent stain glass window creates saturated colors.

The original painting is for sale. Winter came late this year, November and December were mostly snowless which allowed me to get outdoors to take some photos to work from. This tree can be found at the park behind the erie county botanical gardens.
