This view of Main Street Williamsville includes a few of the locally owned shops and a view of Saint’s Paul and Peters church. This was around dusk so the sky has a nice color. The original painting is available.
The original painting is for sale. I was walking down Main Street in Williamsville New York when I saw the
scene and recognized it immediately as a watercolor painting. I lined up
the handrail of the bridge so that points at the subject matter, which
are the people dining inside the restaurant.
The wet into wet technique helped to create soft edges between color
transitions. I also didn't want to have too many sharp edges, I only added
detail to the focal point.
There is a time lapse video of me painting this on YouTube, please check it out and subscribe!

Last summer, I took a walk down Main Street on a very hot and humid summer night. I had been wanting to paint a nocturne for awhile so I took my camera with me with to take a few reference photos. The heavy traffic on Main Street was a problem because I didn’t want the cars to be the focal point of the painting. I waited until the light turned red to keep them at a distance, the traffic light also created a nice red reflection in the street and provides a warm contrast against the dark blue sky.
